Happy Memorial

  • Happy Memorial Day to our U.S. readers: We honor military members, past and present. Thank you for your service and sacrifice. And honor to all the loved ones who stood for and with those who serve and served. Thank you. God Bless You. You are heroes, all.

When the "storms" of life come, most people take a logical course of action in response such as the sailors in today's Scripture. They were behaving logically: it is what they were taught and trained to do; it made sense to them.

However, there may be times when God has a different (and better) solution than ours. We should always check in with Him first before we take matters into our own hands.

Point in case: God's solution for Paul and those with him did not make sense--but it was right and it saved their lives.

So keep up your courage, men, for I have faith in God that it will happen just as he told me. On the fourteenth night we were still being driven across the Adriatic Sea, when about midnight the sailors sensed they were approaching land. Fearing that we would be dashed against the rocks, they dropped four anchors from the stern and prayed for daylight. In an attempt to escape from the ship, the sailors let the lifeboat down into the sea, pretending they were going to lower some anchors from the bow. Then Paul said to the centurion and the soldiers, "Unless these men stay with the ship, you cannot be saved." So the soldiers cut the ropes that held the lifeboat and let it fall away. (Acts 27:25,27,29-32 NIV)
