Just words?

  • I had a conversation with a family member last night about words and their significance. I believe our words carry and express great spiritual authority; that is why they are important--so important that Jesus said we are accountable for even the careless ones.

    Think about these things:

  • At the time of creation, God did not think, "Let there be light." He SAID it--and light became. His words carried His authority and everything He commanded happened as He said.

  • We have no record of Jesus praying silently or observing a "moment of silence". In every instance recorded, He spoke when He prayed as He healed, delivered, performed miracles, and taught.

God is aware of the significance and authority of His spoken words. We should too because we are created in His image.

The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned." (Mat 12:35-37 NIV)
